Upneeq

At ICON Dermatology, we pride ourselves on offering innovative, high-quality products that uphold our commitment to enhancing natural beauty and boosting self-confidence. One such product is Upneeq, a revolutionary FDA-approved ophthalmic solution designed to treat acquired ptosis, or drooping eyelids, in adults. Upneeq not only corrects this condition, but it also offers a refreshed, more youthful appearance. Eyelids can droop for many different reasons, which contributes to the appearance of being tired, uninterested, or possibly even sick.

Fortunately, we are helping patients with droopy or low-lying eyelids. Upneeq® (oxymetazoline hydrochloride ophthalmic solution), 0.1% is the first and only FDA-approved prescription eye drop for adults with acquired blepharoptosis, commonly known as low-lying eyelid. Lifting the eyelids can provide more awake-looking eyes and improve the upper field of vision.

Your Eyes Tell a Story—Let’s Make Sure It’s One You Love

Our eyes are more than just windows to the soul—they’re powerful symbols of beauty, health, and connection. They’re also one of the first areas to show signs of aging, stress, or fatigue. It’s no surprise that enhancing the appearance of our eyes is a priority for many.

From an aesthetic perspective, bright, youthful-looking eyes have long been associated with vitality and wellness. Large, clear eyes with smooth, symmetrical features naturally signal health and energy—qualities that make us feel confident and refreshed.

But beyond beauty, our eyes are essential for communication. Eye contact helps us express emotions, convey trust, and build meaningful connections—whether it’s joy, empathy, or curiosity, our eyes often say what words cannot.

While there are countless strategies to enhance eye aesthetics, one critical area is often overlooked: the eyelids. Drooping, sagging, or puffy eyelids can cause tired, aged-looking eyes, even when you’re feeling your best.

At ICON Dermatology, we specialize in treatments that rejuvenate the eye area, helping you look as vibrant and youthful as you feel. Whether it’s non-invasive options or advanced procedures, we’re here to guide you toward brighter, refreshed eyes that reflect your natural beauty.

What Is Ptosis?

Ptosis, commonly called droopy eyelids, is a condition where one or both upper eyelids sag lower than usual. In some patients, it can lead to partial vision obstruction due to the eyelid drooping over the pupil. This condition occurs when the muscles responsible for lifting the eyelids weaken or stretch, causing the eyelids to sag. The most common cause of droopy eyelids is aging, as the muscles and tissues around the eyes naturally become weaker over time. Ptosis is much more prevalent in adults due to the aging process. However, it can sometimes affect children. Millions of patients throughout the country are living with ptosis.

What Are the Effects of Ptosis?

Droopy eyelids, also known as ptosis, can have a significant impact on one’s quality of life. Aside from the obvious cosmetic concerns, droopy eyelids can also have functional implications. In severe cases, the eyelids may droop to the extent that they obstruct vision, making it difficult to see clearly or even perform daily tasks. Additionally, many individuals with droopy eyelids may experience discomfort, such as eyestrain or headaches, due to the constant effort required to lift their eyelids.

The impact on self-esteem and confidence should not be underestimated either. Droopy eyelids can make individuals feel self-conscious about their appearance and may lead to feelings of insecurity. It’s not uncommon for people with ptosis to avoid social situations or shy away from photographs.

Overall, droopy eyelids can have a significant negative impact on one’s overall well-being. Seeking a solution that addresses both the functional and cosmetic aspects of the condition is crucial to improving quality of life.

Luckily, there is an effective, non-surgical way to lift droopy eyelids, restore vision, and improve your confidence. Droopy eyelids can be a bothersome condition that affects both the function and appearance of the eyes. If you’re tired of dealing with this issue and are looking for a long-term solution, you may be intrigued by Upneeq eye drops. These drops have been gaining popularity as a non-surgical alternative for lifting the upper eyelid.

Low-lying eyelids can affect your field of vision and the way you look, however, not everyone wants to undergo surgery to improve their vision and the cosmetic appearance of their eyes. Our skilled and board certified dermatologists are experienced in visibly lifting the eyelids with Upneeq, the first non-invasive treatment for acquired ptosis or low-lying eyelids.

What is Upneeq?

Upneeq is a revolutionary treatment for droopy eyelids that is applied topically as eye drops. It is a safe and effective once-a-day prescription eye drop that temporarily lifts the upper eyelid muscles to allow them to open wider. It contains an active ingredient called oxymetazoline that causes the muscles to contract and lift the eyelid. The result is a more open and alert appearance while improving the eyes’ functionality and aesthetics.

The great thing about Upneeq is that it can provide quick and noticeable results without the need for invasive surgery. It is a non-invasive option that can be easily incorporated into your daily routine. Plus, it offers the convenience of not requiring any downtime or recovery period.

Upneeq is a fast, safe, and effective treatment option for patients suffering from ptosis. With just one drop of Upneeq once a day, our patients will generally notice a lift in their upper eyelid about an hour after their first application. Results can last for up to eight hours. However, every patient is unique, and your individual experience may vary. At your consultation, we will take the time to discuss what you can expect from your case. Yes! Just wait 15 minutes between using Upneeq and any other eye drops (either prescription or over the counter).

Studies have only been done on once daily use so we cannot recommend any usage more frequent than that.

Do I have to use Upneeq once every day?

No, Upneeq only lasts for 6-8 hours regardless of how often you use it. You could put in your Upneeq in the morning to make putting on eye make-up a breeze, or you could keep a vial with you to use as a pick-me-up when you’re on the mid-afternoon struggle bus. Or even save Upneeq for special events – i.e. when you know you are going to have your picture taken (no more eyes-half-open photos for you!)

Is Upneeq Safe?

Upneeq eye drops have gained popularity as a non-surgical solution for droopy eyelids, but how safe are they for long-term use? Assessing the long-term safety profile of Upneeq is crucial for anyone considering this treatment option. While Upneeq has shown promising results in temporarily lifting the upper eyelid, it’s important to understand any potential risks or side effects that may arise with prolonged use.

Upneeq eye drops have been extensively studied for their safety and efficacy. The active ingredient, oxymetazoline, has a long history of use in other medications and has been deemed safe for ocular use. However, like any medication, there may be individual variations in how someone responds to Upneeq.

Are There Any Side Effects From Using Upneeq?

While Upneeq is a safe, non-invasive treatment for ptosis, like any medication, some patients may experience side effects. Not every patient who’s prescribed Upneeq will experience these side effects, and they may differ in severity from person to person. At ICON Dermatology, our top priority is your safety and comfort. If you experience any side effects, our team will address any concerns and adjust treatment as necessary.

Some side effects include:

  • Eye Irritation – Mild and temporary eye irritation may occur, including redness, itching, or dryness.
